Police have praised communities for their support and cooperation throughout the day.

Although it has been a long and busy day for the force it has been business as usual across the area and officers are continuing to work with partners overnight to keep the roads open and communities safe.

Officers are advising motorists to drive with care as there is still a lot of standing water on the region's roads this evening and are reminding drivers that any road closures are there for a reason and people shouldn't put themselves at risk.

Superintendent Andy McDyer said: "Officers remain out in the communities affected by flooding and will do so throughout the evening.

"Today has been very much about joint working with our partners at the local authorities, fire service, ambulance and other agencies.

"Our priority has always been public safety and this approach will continue into the night."
