A name for every Neighbourhood

Dated: 14 May 2007

The local face of policing is taking centre stage during a national two week campaign promoting Neighbourhood Policing.

Neighbourhood Policing Teams are already familiar faces in every one of Northumbria Police's communities, working in partnership with residents and other organisations to tackle issues causing concern.

The campaign backs Northumbria's current 'Together we can combat crime' initiative tackling criminal damage and the small minority of opportunist offenders who consider breaking a window, scratching a car and setting a wheelie bin on fire as 'a bit of a laugh'.

Welcoming the 'A Name for every Neighbourhood' campaign, Northumbria's Chief Constable Mike Craik, said: " The Neighbourhood Policing teams have had a tremendous impact on the  lives of people living in the Northumbria area.

" These officers are familiar faces in their communities, providing a reassuring presence and helping to reduce the fear of crime.

" Through their initiatives and operations the Neighbourhood officers have won the trust and confidence of residents and through their help have been able to make arrests and seize drugs and stolen property."
