20 kilos of cannabis resin seized
Dated: 10 Dec 2007
Police have recovered approximately 20 kilos of cannabis resin in raids in Sunderland.
At 5.30pm last night, Thursday, October 11, officers from Sunderland Area Command executed warrants at
addresses in Urban Gardens and Burgoyne Court in Washington. A number of garages in Burgoyne Court were also searched.
The cannabis is estimated to be worth around £50,000. Six people were arrested, five men and one woman. Four have been released.
Two men remain in police custody and are being questioned by detectives on suspicion of conspiracy to supply controlled drugs.
Detective Chief Inspector John Lingwood, who led the operation, said: "These raids should act as a warning to anyone intent on dealing drugs that we are taking action against them.
"I'd like to thank the community in Washington for their support in providing vital information which helped this enquiry."
