Man stabbed in the leg

Police are appealing for witnesses after a man was stabbed in the leg during a confrontation in Newcastle.

It happened at around 10.30pm on Monday September 28, 2009, at Welbeck Road, when the 29-year-old victim was in a confrontation with a group of several teenagers outside Tam's Chinese Restaurant, near the junction with St Anthony's Road.

One of the teenagers stabbed the man in the leg. He didn't receive hospital treatment for the wound and is recovering at home.

Police are appealing for witnesses to this incident to come forward.

The group are described as being in their late teens, some of them on pedal bikes, and were standing around in the area prior to the incident taking place.

Detective Constable Dave Renton, Newcastle CID, said: "Thankfully the man didn't receive a serious injury but it's imperative we trace this group to trace the person responsible. I'd urge anyone with information to contact us as a matter of urgency."
