Shopkeeper fined for underage alcohol sale

A Gateshead shopkeeper has been fined after staff at his store sold alcohol to an under 18.
In a joint test-purchase operation in August between police and Gateshead Council Trading Standards officers, a staff member at Kular Stores, in Rothbury Gardens, Lobley Hill sold alcohol to an underage youngster.
The operation resulted in police issuing an £80 fixed-penalty notice to the staff member and the store keeper being fined at court.
Shopkeeper Malkeit Singh Kular pleaded guilty to the offence at Gateshead Magistrates Court on Tuesday, October 25. He was fined £128 and ordered to pay costs of £234.
A simple caution was issued to the legal representatives of Harbans Singh Kular - joint store owner and Malkeit's father who is currently in India - which he is required to sign before Tuesday, December 20 or faces going back to court.
