Arrest made after cannabis farm find
Dated: 05 May 2012
Police have recovered around 200 cannabis plants in Newcastle.
On Tuesday, May 1, police - acting on information received - carried out a search of an address at Irthing Avenue in Walker.
Around 200 plants across two rooms, at varying stages of maturity but many still seedlings, were found inside together with heating and lighting equipment.
A 36-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of producing cannabis and has been bailed pending further enquiries.
Newcastle East Acting Neighbourhood Inspector Louise Galliott said: "We acted on information received to search the house, recovering an amount of cannabis and making an arrest.
"This is cannabis which has been prevented from reaching the streets of Newcastle and we'll continue to carry out pro-active operations such as this to continue to reduce crime and disorder in our neighbourhoods.
"I'd urge anyone with information about suspicious activity in their community to contact police so the appropriate action can be taken."
