Appeal to trace robbery victim

Dated: 22 Jun 2012

Police are appealing for witnesses to trace the potential victim of a robbery in Newcastle.

At 2.46pm on Thursday, June 21, police received a report from a witness saying they had seen two men approach a woman at Newminster Road and, after a struggle, grab her bags and run off.

Officers attended but there was no-one at the scene and no victim has yet been traced.

One of the suspects is described as tall with brown hair, wearing a black and orange hooded top, and the other as having short blond hair, of a large build and wearing a blue tracksuit. The victim was said to be elderly.

Neighbourhood Inspector Leigh McManus said: "We've received a call from a witness to a robbery but no victim has yet come forward. It's important we speak to her so we can check on her welfare, find out what has happened and investigate this incident.

"I'd urge the victim or anyone who knows of such an incident or who the offenders are to contact us as soon as possible."

Police can be contacted on 101 ext 69191, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
