Police are tackling drink fuelled teenagers causing disorder and damaging property in South Tyneside.
Over recent weekends residents in Waterside Park and Marina View areas of Hebburn have contacted police about teenagers gathering in groups to drink alcohol, causing disorder and damage. Some young people have damaged fences and left bottles and cans behind, making the area an eyesore, as well as disrupting peaceful neighbourhoods.
Sergeant Sam Rennison, of the Jarrow and Hebburn Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: "We're carrying out extra uniform patrols in areas affected by these incidents and are working with Community Wardens, to prevent further incidents.
"We've also visited local off-licences and reminded shop staff of their responsibilities to ask for proof of age before selling alcohol to younger looking customers. We want to do all we can to prevent under 18s getting access to drink."
