Dated: 10 Jul 2012
[View Full Size]Police continuing to investigate a serious assault on Newcastle Quayside are releasing CCTV footage of six men they want to identify and speak to.
Around 2.30am on Sunday, July 1, police received a report of an assault on the Quayside. Officers attended and a 20-year-old man was found unconscious on the pavement at the rear of Victoria 22.
He was taken to hospital for treatment to a serious head injury. He remains in hospital in a critical condition.
Officers believe the 20-year-old had been in the Riverside bar before the attack and are appealing for anyone who was in the bar on Saturday evening (June 30) or Sunday morning (July 1) or anyone who was in the area and who may have seen anything to come forward and speak to them.
Detectives are especially keen to speak to a group of men who left the Riverside bar just before the attack took place and who may have vital information into the assault. They are issuing CCTV footage of the men in a bid to trace them.
Northumbria Police Detective Chief Inspector Paul Young said: "We need to speak to this group of men and find out if they saw anything when they left the Riverside bar just before 2:30am on Sunday, July 1.
"There is a 20-year-old man in hospital with life threatening injuries and we need to find whoever is responsible for attacking him. These men could be vital in helping us with our enquiries.
"If that is you in the footage then get in touch with police as soon as possible. We have a number of other lines of enquiry ongoing and we need to speak to these men urgently."
Anyone who recognises those pictured in the CCTV footage, or anyone with any information, is asked to contact police on 101 ext 69191 or by ringing Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
