Collision on A69

Police are appealing for witnesses to a collision between two vehicles on the A69 in Northumberland.

It happened on Friday, July 20 at 6.50pm on the A69 eastbound at the junction for Upper Denton in Hexham.

For reasons yet to be established a Toyota Land Cruiser collided with a Mazda 6 which was travelling east approaching the junction for Upper Denton. The Mazda which was driven by a 33-year-old man who suffered minor injuries.

The driver of the Toyota was taken ill at the scene and was taken to Cumbria Infirmary where his condition is described as serious but stable.

The road was closed for two hours to allow emergency services to deal with the incident and to facilitate collision investigation. Local diversions were put in place.

Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward anyone who was in the area at the time and witnessed the collision is asked to contact Northumbria Police on 101 ext 69191 or the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
