Police are warning people about the dangers of taking illegal drugs after 12 people were taken to hospital.

At 9.11pm on Saturday, November 16, police received a report expressing concern for the welfare of people in a house at Osborne Terrace in Jesmond.

Officers and paramedics attended and 12 people, nine men, aged between 17 and 23, and three women, aged between 19 and 24, were taken to the RVI in Newcastle and Rake Lane Hospital in North Tyneside for treatment.

Eight people have now been discharged with four people currently remaining in hospital. One person is still receiving treatment while three are being kept under observation.

A 22-year-old man has been arrested for being concerned in the supply of drugs and is currently helping police with their enquiries.

At this stage information passed to the police suggests those involved had taken LSD paper tabs with a strawberry motif on them and enquiries are being carried out to establish exactly what has happened, with officers speaking with those involved.

The investigation is ongoing and anyone with any information which could help police is asked to contact officers on 101.

Anyone who needs emergency medical attention should call 999. For further information visit or
