Police are appealing for witnesses after a 24-year-old man was assaulted in Newcastle.

The assault happened between 3.30am and 4am on Saturday, March 15, near to the Beehive Pub in the Bigg Market.

The 24-year-old suffered a facial injury after being elbowed by another man who then made off.

Officers are carrying out enquiries and are appealing for any witnesses to contact them.

Anyone who was in the Bigg Market between 3.30am and 4am on Saturday, March 15 is asked to get in contact with police.
