Police in Northumberland are investigating an arson after a caravan was set alight in Morpeth.

At just before 1.05am, on Sunday May 18, police received a report from the fire service of the caravan fire, at Cresswell Tower caravan park, in Ellington.

Officers attended the scene where severe fire damaged had been caused to the inside of the caravan. The occupants awoke to the blaze but escaped unharmed.

Subsequent enquiries have revealed lit paper was also pushed through the window of another caravan on the site. However, this was extinguished before any fire could take hold.

Police are treating the incident as arson and are appealing to anyone with information to come forward.

People can contact police on 101, extension 69191, quoting log number 103 17/05/14, or the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
