Beating the burglars in Northumberland
Dated: 19 Apr 2010
Police in South East Northumberland are reminding people to make sure they don't leave windows and doors open and unlocked, especially as the lighter nights draw near.
It follows a number of break-ins in the Blyth and Ashington areas where the burglar has got into a property through a window that has been left open or a door left unlocked.
Supt Allan Brown, from Northumberland Area Command, said: "The number of burglaries across Northumberland has fallen by 21 % compared to last year due to robust police and partner activity and the reality is that residents are less likely than ever to be broken into. However, most thieves are opportunist and by making sure their homes are secure people are making it less inviting to any potential thief.
"Help us to beat the burglars in Northumberland by locking up your home, even when you're in."
Police have arrested two men in connection with recent break-ins and they are helping police with their enquiries.
