Door knocker warning after thefts
Dated: 27 Mar 2012
Police are warning thieves that door knockers replaced after a spate of thefts are worthless.
Over recent days a number of brass door knockers have been stolen from doors around the West Denton area of Newcastle.
The stolen door knockers have been replaced by housing providers with plastic ones, which are coated to have a brass-like appearance. Other door knockers in the area are also being replaced.
Neighbourhood Inspector Julie Rana said: "Some door knockers in the area have been stolen, we assume for their metal value, and we're making enquiries into these thefts to trace the people responsible.
"The stolen door knockers have since been replaced by plastic ones, and we're warning thieves thinking of stealing from the area that they face a criminal record for something which is worthless.
"I'd urge residents to report any suspicious activity they see in the area to police at the earliest opportunity."
