Police Community Support Officers
Dated: 01 Jun 2012

Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs) across Northumbria are being given additional powers to serve their communities.
Since 2007 Northumbria Police Community Support Officers have been designated by the Chief Constable with 20 standard powers and three additional discretionary powers.
From June 1 the officers will have new discretionary powers to deal with issues in their neighbourhoods.
Chief Constable Sue Sim said: “Neighbourhood policing is at the heart of how we police our communities, working with local people to provide the services they want, being highly visible and focusing on their local needs.
“I am committed to maintaining visible policing as delivered by 24/7 response, neighbourhood policing teams including PCSO Patrol and the detectives who support our neighbourhoods.
“Police Community Support Officers play an integral part in delivering and supporting visible policing as part of integrated neighbourhood teams."
