Handbag theft in Alnwick

Police are appealing for witnesses following a handbag theft during the Alnwick International Music Festival.

The incident happened on Sunday, August 5, between 9.30am and 11am at a market stall in the market place in Alnwick.  A trader had left a blue handbag on the back of a chair at one of the market stalls and later found it had been stolen, along with an undisclosed quantity of cash.

Police are appealing for witnesses anyone who was in the area and who may have seen or heard anything suspicious is asked to contact police.

Inspector Paul Truscott of Alnwick Neighbourhood Policing Team said: " We're asking for help from the community and visitors to the Alnwick International Music Festival on Sunday who may have seen this theft.

"We also want to remind people to take extra care of their possessions , it only takes a few moments for someone to steal a bag and walk off.  These types of crime are very distressing for the individual involved.  Please make sure you always have your handbag with you and with the fastening closed."
