Pupils safety message
Dated: 13 Jul 2012
Officers visited a primary school recently to give a safety message to young Killingworth students.
Youngsters from Moor Edge Primary School had first hand experience of local flooding and were keen to tell the officers how it had affected them and their school.
Officers from the Killingworth Neighbourhood Policing Team called into the school to talk to the pupils aged 5 to 11 years to tell them how to stay safe.
Community Support Officer Tim Cousins said: "Our visit was very timely as the youngsters had seen for themselves the effects of water on their community and had a real awareness of the importance of being safe when out and about.
"We reminded them the rules for staying safe are simple; always stay with a friend or a group of friends and make sure someone knows where you are going and when you'll be back."
