Joint work for den busters
Dated: 30 Aug 2012
[View Full Size]Police and council staff teamed up to dismantle and destroy five drinking dens in North Tyneside.
The two week operation saw nearly a tonne of debris removed in Benton and Longbenton where dens are used for underage drinking and often result in anti-social behaviour which causes problems for residents.
Officers from Killingworth Neighbourhood Policing Team have been increasing patrols in affected areas and working with North Tyneside Council Waggonway Wardens. Three dens were cleared on the Longbenton Waggonway, near the cat and dog shelter, one in Killingworth's Keegan Park and the other next to Benton Metro Station.
The initiative forms part of 'Put yourself in their shoes' - Northumbria Police's campaign tackling anti-social behaviour which urges people to think about how their actions can affect others.
