Crime prevention advice
Dated: 15 Oct 2012
Shoppers in Gateshead can pick up crime prevention advice with their weekly groceries.
Neighbourhood officers from Gateshead South will be staffing the community van in the Co-Op car park High Street, Ravensworth Villas, Wrekenton on Thursday, October 18, from 10.30am to 3pm.
Police will offer visitors to the community van the opportunity to get their valuables security logged for free. They will also be handing out leaflets advising people how to avoid being taken in by bogus callers.
The 'If in doubt, keep them out!' initiative aims to raise awareness of the problem of doorstep criminals - people who carry out distraction burglaries, such as bogus officials, high pressure doorstep salesmen and rogue traders.
Police want to help people stay safe and avoid being taken in by fraudsters.
