Police are working with partners to help crime victims with a handy crime prevention scheme.

Northumbria Police is working with Safer Northumberland Partnership and the Age UK Handyvan scheme to help residents who are referred for crime prevention assistance.

People in the borough who have been victims of burglary or bogus callers will be considered for help. They will receive a visit and have their home security improved during the pilot scheme.

Northumbria Police Crime Prevention Advisors will visit people in their home and assess what security measures are needed, this may include door or window locks, door chains or door viewers.

Trained Age UK staff will then install the necessary equipment free of charge.
