Good response to Gateshead murder

Detectives investigating the murder of a Gateshead man have had a good response from the local community.
John Roberts was found dead inside a house in Park Terrace, Winlaton at 6:16pm on Sunday, December 16. A post mortem was carried out on the 32-year-old's body and it has been established he died as a result of serious head injuries.
Mr Roberts' last confirmed sighting was on Thursday, December 13, officers need to trace his whereabouts since that day. They are keen to speak to anyone who may have see Mr Roberts or spoken to him since Thursday, or anyone with any information that could help us track his movements since he was last seen.
Police have had a very positive response from the local community who have come forward with sightings and information about Mr Roberts and officers are following a number of lines of enquiry.
Assistant Chief Constable Steve Ashman said: "Mr Roberts was a well-known man and it's important to remember he was someone's son who was violently attacked and we need people to keep coming forward with any information. So far there has been a good response from the public to our appeals - however we need this to continue."
"We know a lot of people have been paying tribute to Mr Roberts following his death - which shows he was a familiar face aound Gateshead and Newcastle.
"We understand how an incident like this, although mercifully rare, can cause a degree of concern among the local community.
"We'd like to stress there is no suggestion of any risk to the wider public and we have extra local officers in the Winlaton area carrying out enquiries and speaking to residents. If anyone has any concerns or information that they wish to pass on face to face to officers then please speak to them."
