As another year draws to a close I’d like to take this opportunity to thank the communities in Northumbria and the police officers and staff who serve them.
This has been another busy year with significant challenges for forces across the country.
The unprecedented rainfall we experienced this summer tested all the emergency services, and I’m proud of the way police officers and police staff across Northumbria worked together to minimise disruption and keep our communities safe.
Many of us were enthralled by the Olympic Games this summer, and officers and staff in Northumbria had an important part to play in supporting the Olympic organising committee with policing the Torch Relay and the football matches at St James’ Park in Newcastle.
Once again the people of Northumbria demonstrated their hospitality and enthusiasm in front of a world-wide audience, turning out in their thousands to welcome the torch and take part in associated events.
I’d like to take this opportunity to wish you and your families a very Happy Christmas and a peaceful New Year.
