A large amount of silverware has been stolen from the home of a 101-year-old man in Northumberland.
Between 1.30pm and 7pm on Wednesday, December 19, a house was broken into in Alnmouth.
Thieves stole a large number of silver items, including cutlery, cups, jugs and other ornaments.
DC Alan Bogle said: "A burglary like this is always distressing, but particularly so at Christmas and when it involves such an elderly victim.
"Some of the items taken are valuable and are distinctive and I would hope that anyone offered them for sale would do the right thing and contact police.
"This was a cruel and callous attack and I would appeal for anyone with information to come forward and contact officers in Alnwick on the 101 non-emergency number."
