Police are continuing to investigate a murder in North Tyneside.

At 1.53am on Saturday, February 16, police were called to reports of a stabbing at Burn Closes Crescent in Wallsend. Officers and the ambulance service attended and a 25-year-old man was taken to the RVI where he was later declared dead.

At this time police believe that the man had been at a house party at an address on Burn Closes Crescent and had been involved in a fight involving a number of people. The incident appears to have started inside a house before moving on to the street.

Officers are working to establish exactly what happened.

Seven people - men aged 21, 20 and 19 and women aged 45, 25, 21 and 19 - have been arrested in connection with the investigation and are currently in custody helping with enquiries.

DCI Christina Barrett said: "We're in the early stages of a murder investigation and seven people have been arrested and are helping with enquiries. At this stage it's believed all those involved are known to each other.

"Early indications suggest there was a disturbance both inside and outside the address and we're working to establish exactly what has happened.

"I'd appeal for anyone in the area who saw or heard anything or has information about what happened to contact us as soon as possible."

A Post Mortem will be carried out to establish a cause of death.

Northumbria Police Chief Superintendent Kay Blyth added: "A team of detectives are carrying out an investigation and seven people have been arrested.

"We understand incidents of this nature do cause concern to the community and the Neighbourhood Policing Team are out and about in the community to keep them informed and to reassure them about the ongoing investigation.

"Anyone who has concerns should speak with their local officers. I'd also urge anyone who has information about what happened to pass it on to officers at the earliest opportunity."

Police have launched a murder investigation after a death in North Tyneside.

At 1.53am on Saturday February 16 police were called to reports of a stabbing at Burn Closes Crescent in Wallsend.

Officers and the ambulance service attended and a 25-year-old man was found in the street outside a house with what appears to be a stab wound.

Despite efforts by paramedics at the scene he was declared dead shortly afterwards at the RVI.

At this time police believe that the man had been at a house party at an address on Burn Closes Crescent and had been involved in a fight involving a number of people.

Several people have been arrested in connection with the death.

Superintendent Jim Napier said: "Police enquiries at the scene are ongoing and a cordon is in place on the street.

"A murder investigation has been launched and additional police patrols are underway to aid the investigation and to reassure local residents."
