Man arrested after rape

A man has been arrested following an allegation of rape in Newcastle.

The incident is believed to have happened at an address in the Spital Tongues area on Saturday, February 16, between 4am and 5.30am. The woman was raped at the address before leaving to return to a hotel on Dean Street in a taxi.

She has later attended hospital and disclosed to staff she had been raped.

Following enquiries police arrested a 24-year-old man on suspicion of rape and he has been bailed pending further enquiries into the incident.

DI Paul Race of the Rape Investigation Team said: "Following enquiries a man was arrested and has been bailed while the investigation continues.

"We are still trying to establish the exact circumstances of this incident and would urge anyone with information to contact police. Additional officers are on patrol around the Spital Tongues area to reassure the community and gather any information."

Police are appealing for witnesses after an alleged rape in Newcastle.

Police received a report from the RVI hospital that a 23-year old woman had been raped.

The incident is believed to have happened at an address in the Spital Tongues area on Saturday, February 16, between 4am and 5.30am.

The woman was raped at the address before leaving to return to a hotel on Dean Street in a taxi.

She has later attended hospital and disclosed to staff she had been raped.

Additional officers are on patrol around the Spital Tongues area to reassure the community.

Acting DS Nicola Bell of the Rape Investigation Team: "We are still trying to establish the exact circumstances of this incident and would urge anyone with information to contact police.

"I would also ask if any taxi drivers picked up a woman in this area at this time and took them to the Dean Street area. To contact us,

"We have put uniformed officers out on patrol in the area to gather any information and reassure the community."
