Pedestrian killed in North Shields collision

Police are appealing for information after a fatal collision in North Shields.

At 11:33am on Monday, February 18, police received a report of a collision involving a car and a pedestrian on the A1058 Beach Road, North Shields.

The pedestrian involved in the collision was taken to the RVI hospital for treatment but has since died.

He can now be identified as Roy Toogood MBE, 66, of Cullercoats, North Tyneside. Mr Toogood received his MBE for his work with Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs.

A section of Beach Road between the A192 at Tynemouth Pool and the A193 Broadway was closed for around four hours to allow for investigation to take place.

The driver of the car, an 18-year-old man, has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and bailed pending further enquiries.
