Motorists are being reminded of road closures in Newcastle as the Great North Run Million Opening Ceremony is launched on the Quayside.
The event will be held on the Quayside on Thursday, September 4, to mark the start of the official countdown to the one millionth person to finish the Great North Run on Sunday.
The organisers have implemented a number of road closures to enable the infrastructure for the show to be put together and disassembled safely. The majority of the road closures are anticipated to be between 6pm and midnight, however, roads will be re-opened as soon as it is safe to do so.
In particular motorists are advised the Tyne Bridge will be closed between 8.30pm and 10.30pm.
Extra motor patrol officers will be on patrol during the evening while the road closures are in place to ensure disruption to motorists is kept to a minimum and traffic is flowing.
Superintendent Gillian Mitchell said: "We will be supporting the organisers throughout the event to ensure there is minimum disruption to motorists in the area and that traffic is flowing.
"There may be minor delays as there will be extra traffic in the area and motorists may want to leave slightly longer for their journey."
The following roads will be closed between 6pm and midnight:
Bottle Bank (access to Hilton Hotel and Curzon Place only via Oakwellgate, Cannon Street, Church Street and Bridge Street)
Queen Street (access will be permitted into residential areas in Akendside and Queen Street when safe to do so)
