Property registration
To record the details of personal property online, use Immobilise, an online database which can be used by the public to record details of personal property and by the police to retrieve them.
The database, which is free to use, can be found at www.immobilise.com. It allows the user to register their personal details, along with details of items they want to protect, such as bikes, laptops, phones and jewellery. If the item is lost or stolen and recovered by police, they can then identify who it belongs to.
The types of details you can record include serial numbers, IMEI numbers and barcodes - you can even include a photo of the item and make a note of any distinguishing marks. We can then check any items they recover against the database; if it’s been registered they can easily identify the owner and return the property to them – even if it hasn’t been reported stolen.
Using this database means:
We can check any property we recover to see if has been registered.
If it has, we can easily find out who it belongs to and make sure it’s returned to its rightful owner.
If we find someone has an item which we believe has been stolen, we can check whether or not it belongs to them.
If it doesn’t, we then have the evidence to take action against them.
Note for users of the MyProperty Service
If you have previously used the Northumbria Police provided property recording service, we recommend that you:
Log in and retrieve the details of any items you have recorded there, and which you currently own.
Make a note of these.
Then add the details to the Immobilise database via www.immobilise.com.
Then delete the details from the My Property System.
It is likely that the My Property system will be discontinued in the future.
We do not recommend that members of the public add new details to the My Property system.
