Police are appealing for information after a man was attacked with a baseball bat in Gateshead.

At around 3.50pm on Monday afternoon police received a report that two men had been involved in an altercation on Pensher Street in the Felling area of the town.

Emergency services attended and found that a 23-year-old man had suffered serious, but not life threatening, injuries to his head.

He remains in hospital in a stable condition where he is receiving treatment for a fractured skull.
