Did you witness a robbery in Gateshead last night?

Police are appealing for information after a robbery in Gateshead.

At around 10.45pm yesterday evening (Monday) a man has entered the Ocean Cottage takeaway on Sunderland Road and approached the counter.

He has threatened a male staff member before demanding a quantity of cash. He has then leaned over the counter before making off with around £30 in cash.

The man is believed to have fled in the direction of Heworth.

He is described as white, between 5ft10in and 6ft tall and of slimbuild. He was wearing black tights over his head and a black balaclava, a green parker jacket and gloves.

Police enquiries to identify the man are ongoing and now officers are appealing for any witnesses, or anyone who may know the person responsible, to get in touch.

Extra officers will be in the area throughout the day to carry out enquiries and speak to any concerned members of the public.
