About My Role
The Central Area Command headquarters is at Etal Lane in Newcastle, with stations at Forth Banks and Whickham housing 24/7 response teams, Neighbourhood policing teams and police staff. The Command also has stations at Byker, the West End and Gateshead where Neighbourhood policing teams, specialist units and support staff are based. Additionally police teams have local accessible community bases provided by partner organisations in key locations such as the Metro Centre and Eldon Square. Central Area Command police a combined population of around 500,000 people, as such it is one of the largest police commands in the United Kingdom.
Within Central Command the 24/7 teams respond to calls from the public and patrol neighbourhoods 24 hours a day 365 days a year. Neighbourhood teams are responsible for geographical areas and provide community policing, they lead on engaging the public and working with the community and partners to resolve issues and help build strong, safe communities and environments. The Crime Investigation Department (CID) conduct investigations into more serious offences.
As your Area Commander I am committed to ensuring we deliver a high quality policing service to our communities. Northumbria police has consistently achieved the highest levels of public confidence and victim satisfaction among police services in England and Wales. We are very proud to have attained this level of public support and are determined to maintain this and continue to improve.
