Crime Statistics Commentary

Officers have received several reports of thefts from unattended vehicles in the area.

In several cases, the vehicles have been left insecure which makes them an easy target for opportunist criminals.

In response to this, high visibility patrols have been carried out supported by plain clothes patrols at specific times in identified areas.

Where vehicles have been found insecure or with valuables on display, crime prevention advice has been given to owners.

Advice to car owners is always check that you have secured your vehicle, never leave valuables on display and always take them with you when you leave your vehicle.
The message is Lock it, secure it, keep it!

Since the beginning of the year there has been a slight increase in house burglary offences in Whickham. As a result officers were tasked to the area to carry out high profile as well as covert patrols.

Four arrests were made in connection with offences. Three of those have been convicted at crown court and subsequently received substantial prison sentences.

The Inner West area of Gateshead is a safe place to live with reported crimes in the sector having been reduced by nearly 500 compared to the same time last year.
