You said, we did...

A man buying alcohol for youths waiting outside an off-licence

We asked…

What concerns do you have about your neighbourhood?

You said...

1. "In Allerdene there is a problem with, youth anti social behaviour, drugs and vandalism and littering".

2.
"In Barley Mow there is a lack of police visibility and youth anti social behaviour".

We did...

1.

  • Undertook Hi visibility patrols in the area and took a robust stance in relation any instances of anti social behaviour.
  • Worked with partner agencies to provide diversion opportunities for young people in the area with the aim of reducing the number of groups congregating in problem areas.

  • Created an action plan to combat these concerns. We are currently working with partner agencies and the council to specifically target these offences over an 8 week period and feed back the results to people living in the area.

  • Used Anti Socail Behaviour orders to stop the most profilic offenders causing disorder and putting these people through the court if they breached the order.

  • Put several people before the court for disorder offences in the area.

  • worked with the council to ensure that liscensed business sold alcohol responsibily.

2.

  • Extra patrols were also undertaken by the Neighbourhood Team including CSO's

  • Took a robust stance in relation to any instances of anti social behaviour.

  • Worked with partner agencies to provide diversion opportunities for young people in the area with the aim of reducing the number of groups congregating in problem areas.

  • visited all addresses in the area to ask about concerns and increase links so that people feel comfortable reporting incidents so they can be dealt with

  • targeted off liscenses to ensure that they did not sell to under aged persons and those other shoppers did not buy alcohol for under aged persons who congregated around these shops.

  • Arrested a number of people causing disorder in the area

  • Worked with Newcastle University and Gateshead Council's Youth Services to pilot a scheme which gives young people and residents a greater understanding of the behaviour of young people and how it affects the general public. 'Walk a mile in my shoes' shows young people how there behaviour is percieved by residents and shows residents that in many cases although they may feel intimidated when they see young people in the area they are acting lawfully and do not mean to frighten anyone.
