Neighbourhood priorities

Northumbria Police aims to meet our commitment to you.

The following Neighbourhood priorities relate to your area:

1. December 14, 2011: Youths causing disorder in and around Wansbeck Road Metro Station

What you told us

A number of calls were received from the community and via our partners at various meetings that youths were causing disorder in the early evenings.

The priority was adopted in July and work has been ongoing since this time to address this issue.

What we are doing about it

Extra uniformed officers have been patrolling this area at the key times especially on Friday and Saturday night.  Police and partners have been working together to address this issue and work is still ongoing.

Keeping you informed

Officers patrolling the problem area have arrested youths for being drunk and have seized alcohol from them.  Youths have also been given "Direction to Leave Notices" which prevents them remaining in this area for a specified period of time.

The Gosforth & Great Park Neighbourhood Team will be in attendance at the Ward meetings held by the local authority and information about these meetings can be found on either the Northumbria Police website or the Newcastle City Council website.

2. Parking offences caused by motor vehicles causing obstruction to the highway on the Great Park.

What you told us

  • Numerous complaints were received from residents highlighting the problems caused by motor vehicles causing an obstruction.  These complaints were made directly to the Neighbourhood Team and at local meetings.

  • The issue is that motor vehicles are parking across footpaths causing obstruction to pedestrians, particular areas that have been identified are Featherstone Grove & Barmoor Drive however other streets within the Great Park estate are also being affected by this problem.

  • This priority ha been adopted since August and enforcement action is now taking place.

What we are doing about it

Houses within the Great Park were delivered leaflets highlighting the offences of causing unnecessary obstructions and warned that enforcement would follow should motor vehicles continue to commit offences.

Officers are patrolling this area and issuing tickets to motor vehicles found to be causing obstructions to the highway.

Keeping you informed

Officers patrolling the area have already issued tickets to offending vehicles.
