Crime Statistics Commentary

In the west end of Newcastle, there has been an increase in the amount of anti-social behaviour in March.

This is a seasonal increase and has been further increased by the mild weather.

The West Road Neighbourhood Policing Team has increased the amount of foot patrols around the areas that have experienced the largest increases.

Additionally we have worked with our partners, Safe Newcastle, Your Homes Newcastle and the local schools to target offenders using CCTV and also preventing the issues by linking in to schools and highlighting the way anti-social behaviour affects the wider community.

There were 420 crimes in the west end of Newcastle in March. In addition to the visible patrols mounted by ourselves and the council wardens, there have been a number of proactive warrants executed with positive results.

We rely on the communities of Benwell, Elswick, Fenham and Scotswood to inform us of crimes and anti-social behaviour via telephone, twitter, email, Facebook, in person or via a public meeting as it’s only with their help that we can make the west end a safe place to live.
