Crime Statistics Commentary

In the North sector of Newcastle there has been an increase in the number of house burglaries, plus burglaries to sheds and garages.  A number of these could have been prevented by residents ensuring entrance doors were locked overnight and it is absolutely vital people ensure all doors and windows are secured, when going out or going to bed.

We have increased our patrols in the Gosforth, West Denton and Chapel Park areas in response to burglary reports and, together with our colleagues in the probation service, have worked extremely hard to target those offenders believed to be committing this type of crime.

A recent operation conducted by police in the North sector has targeted a number of people who were suspected of committing burglaries.  Their recent arrests for conspiring to commit burglaries in Newcastle resulted in several being charged with offences.  This is expected to have a significant impact on reducing crime in the coming weeks.

There has been a slight increase in anti-social behaviour during March. To tackle this, Newcastle North Neighbourhood Policing Team has increased the number of patrols in areas where we have been told this is happening.  We do count on the assistance of the public to tell us when they are experiencing problems, but also work very closely with Your Homes Newcastle and the Council to ensure problems are resolved as soon as practicable.

The good news is that in the past year crime has reduced and there have been 522 fewer victims of crime in the North of Newcastle.  There have also been 1,089 fewer instances of anti-social behaviour than the previous year.  It is important we continue to work together to address issues and ensure a good quality of life for each of our residents.
