Help us with Criminal Damage

Name and Shame a vandal

Officers in Byker and Walker are asking the public to name and shame vandals as part of a crackdown on criminal damage.

Operation Taurus aims to encourage people to identify those who commit criminal damage in their community. Whether this is graffiti, smashing windows or damaging phone boxes and other public utilities.

Photographs of the damage are being released to the community in a bid to identify offenders and take action, with the ultimate aim of preventing it from happening in the first place.

All the public have to do is contact police and tell us who it is or who it might be and we'll do the rest.

Neighbourhood Inspector Terry McNamara said: "It's just not acceptable to damage other people's property. It affects not only individuals but the wider community as it looks unsightly and can give a false impression of a neighbourhood.

"All people need to do is look at the photos and call us if they know who is responsible. By us all working together we can reduce criminal damage and clean up our neighbourhoods. It's all about stopping the rot."

Anyone with information about the pictured damage can contact police on 03456 043 043 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
