Have a cuppa with your copper

Dated: 04 May 2012

Locals in Heaton can sit down for a cuppa and a chat with their neighbourhood copper next week.

A PC and a Community Support Officer from Newcastle East Neighbourhood Policing Team will be present for a drop-in session at the Sainsbury's supermarket at Etherstone Avenue in Heaton.

The supermarket chain is providing free teas and coffees for shoppers who stop to chat to their local officers, where they can find out about crime and disorder in the area and raise any concerns they have.

The informal session takes place between 11am and 1pm on Thursday, May 10, at the supermarket's cafe.

Acting Neighbourhood Sergeant Sandra Jackson said: "There are a lot of local people go to this Sainsbury's to do their shopping and it's important we hold events in places where it's convenient for residents.

"Here they can get a free tea or coffee and sit down with their local officer for an informal chat where they can ask questions, get to know their neighbourhood team and find out about crime in the area.

"It's also an opportunity for us to tell the community about ongoing initiatives, campaigns and operations to make Heaton safer."
