Neighbourhood priorities

Northumbria Police aims to meet our commitment to you.

The following Neighbourhood priorities relate to your area:

January 11, 2012: Youth anti-social behaviour at Denton Dene North and Wansford Avenue.

What you told us

Local residents have reported youth anti-social behaviour from Denton Dene North to Wansford Avenue, sometimes involving up to 40 youths. Some are drunk having consumed alcohol.

What we are doing about it

Community Support Officers tasked to patrol the area and confiscate alcohol from anyone underage or involved in antisocial behaviour.

Underage youths under the influence of alcohol will be returned home, and parents spoken to.

Local off-licences will be visited regularly to ensure compliance with law relating to sale of alcohol.

Alcohol confiscations will be made and direction to leave notices issued where appropriate (banning the individual from the area for up to 48 hours).

Acceptable behaviour agreements (regulating individuals conduct) will be used.

Keeping you informed

The above tactics have been successful previously in significantly reducing antisocial behaviour.

Residents will be kept informed of successes via the sector website, local media, leaflet drops, patrolling officers and community messaging releases.

January 11, 2012: Antisocial behaviour around Knott Place.

What you told us

Police have received an increase in incident reports regarding youth antisocial behaviour in Knott Place and the surrounding streets. Local residents have also approached patrolling officers and outlined their increased concerns regarding youths congregating and being noisy and disruptive.

What we are doing about it

High visibility patrols will be conducted on evenings throughout the week and particularly at key times (weekends 7 - 11pm).

Youths will be dispersed / returned home and positive action taken re any offences wherever possible.

Alcohol seizures will be used to reduce offending behaviour and direction to leave notices issued where appropriate (banning individual from the area for up to 48 hours - failure to comply will result in arrest).

Acceptable behaviour agreements (restricting behaviour) will be instigated for repeat offenders found to be involved in antisocial behaviour.

Tenancy enforcement progressed if any person involved resides in a council property.

Keeping you informed

Updates will be put on sector web page outlining successes / positive action taken against individuals.

Residents will be kept informed at local meetings and via leaflet drops re activity undertaken, and by patrolling officers.
