Neighbourhood priorities

Northumbria Police aims to meet our commitment to you.

The following Neighbourhood priorities relate to your area:

2. May 2012: Burglaries.

"What you told us"

A number of calls were received from the community and our partners at various meetings about students causing disorder in the evenings and into the early hours.

"What we are doing about it"

Operation Oak is an anti-social behaviour police patrol carried out during peak times, 11pm and 4am, and locations, South and West Jesmond, every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. Officers are on patrol until 4am weekdays and 5am at weekends.

Newcastle residents will benefit from Night-Watch, a new night-time noise service operated by Newcastle City Council. This noise service will deal specifically with night time noise problems. Night-Watch operates seven days a week, between 8pm and 4am. If you are experiencing noisy neighbours please phone 0191 274 4000.

"Keeping you informed"

Between the two agencies, 69 students were spoken to during April. Each received an anti-social behaviour notice.

All student details are passed onto their relevant University for their attention and any further action.

3. May 2012: Theft from motor vehicles.

"What you told us"

Can you tell us what police are doing to help prevent vehicles from being targeted in the area?

"What we are doing about it"

There have been 11 thefts from motor vehicles in the Heaton and Jesmond areas. Operation Sunshine continues to run with 15 local motorists contacted for leaving valuables on show.

High visibility patrols have been put in place in the targeted areas to help identify vulnerable vehicles and advise the owners accordingly.

"Keeping you informed"

You can contact the Jesmond and Heaton Neighbourhood Policing Team through the Northumbria Police website.

3. May 2012: Bicycle thefts in Heaton and Jesmond.

"What you told us"

There has been an increase in the number of reports of bicycle thefts - mainly from lamp posts and barriers used to secure bikes when visiting the area or popping into local shops.

"What we are doing about it"

The Newcastle East Neighbourhood Policing Team has formed a cycle-theft team, conducting high-visibility and plain clothed patrols in the area on foot, in cars and on bicycles.

Operations have begun using various police techniques to identify the thieves and those who go on to handle the stolen property.

Many bicycle owners have been spoken to and given crime prevention advice about the quality of the locks they are using and to secure their bicycles in well lit public areas if a bicycle rack is not available.

"Keeping you informed"
