Anti social behaviour by students in Jesmond.

We did...

Following funding from the Council Wards of Jesmond and funding from both Newcastle and Northumbria University Operation Oak has continued from last year following some excellent results and feedback.  As a result of some of the feedback we have received we have increased patrols during the peak Anti Social behaviour times to 5 days a week from the previous 3 days a week, this will allow for greater coverage throughout the week.

Posters and signs have been produced and will be displayed in the area.

Those found committing criminal offences or committing Anti Social Behaviour is being dealt with in a very strong but fair way.  We are working closely with the Environmental Health Team at Newcastle City Council as well as working closely with both Newcastle and Northumbria University to identify and prosecute those found committing offences.

Metal thefts in Jesmond and Heaton

We did...

Operation Ocean - Thefts are occurring at all times, day and night, all over the Newcastle area.  The type of offences being recorded range from the theft of lorry exhaust systems, raids on recycling sites for batteries, scrap dealers for metal, theft of lead and piping from dwellings and business premises, stripping of cabling to the theft of cast iron garden furniture and bicycles.

Operation Wand was set up in the East End of Newcastle to target mainly Scrap metal dealers and scrap metal collectors.  It is a multi agency operation consisting of Her Majesty’s Customs and Excise and the Vehicle Operators Services Agency. When the operation is running scrap vehicles are stopped by officers and the occupants and contents are checked, whilst this is being done HRMC and VOSA check the vehicles for defects and make sure the vehicles are suitable and roadworthy, they also check for potential red diesel.

It is our intention to:

Reduce offences and identify offenders or persons suspected of such offences.

Stop and check all vehicles identified as collecting scrap, check their personal details, vehicles and make sure they have the appropriate licence to be out collecting scrap.

Arrest offenders and deal with them in an expedient manner ensuring positive outcomes in all cases.

Visit the scrap yards regularly in order to deter criminal activity and support legitimate business.

Bicycle thefts in Jesmond. Mainly from rear yards, or on occasions from lamp posts used to secure the bike to if visiting the area.

We did...

Operation Delta was initiated which used various police tactics to identify bicycle thieves and those who go on to handle the stolen property.  This is a mixture of high profile patrols in effected areas as well as covert operations. Numerous bike owners were spoken to and given crime prevention advice about the quality of the locks they are using and to secure their bicycles in well lit public areas if being used in the area and a bicycle rack is not available.

Operation Sunshine / Moonlight was set up to alert occupants and owners of the potential for their personal belonging and addresses being targeted by would-be thieves.  Whilst on high profile patrol officers proactively identified items of personal property including pedal cycles and properties where windows / doors had been left open or where valuables have been left on display.  Crime prevention advice is then given by the officers.
