Newcastle West Sector covers 6 Council Wards in the west of Newcastle, stretching from the Redheugh Bridge on the outskirts of the City Centre, west along the River Tyne to the boundary with Northumberland.
Included in the sector is West Road Police Station, and a number of notable features, including Newcastle General Hospital, Newcastle College, the Metro Radio Arena, the bustling West Road retail area, and substantial green spaces in Newcastle Town Moor, Exhibition Park and Nuns’ Moor Park.
There are 4 secondary schools in the area; Excelsior Academy, Sacred Heart RC High School, St Cuthbert’s Catholic High School and Walbottle Campus, together with the many primary schools which feed into them.
There is a substantial regeneration project underway in Scotswood. Following the demolition of hundreds of homes, work has begun on building 1800 new homes and a new Neighbourhood Centre. There are also plans for further house building in the rural areas to meet housing demand over the next 20 years.
