Crime Statistics Commentary
The end of the financial year saw crime in the Killingworth sector reduce overall by 3% compared to the previous year in 2010/2011.
There has been a significant reduction in the number of crimes and victims over the past twelve months within the Killingworth area.
The prevention of house burglary continues to be a priority. We are dealing with this issue with extra officers on patrols in those affected areas at key times. We have also given crime prevention information to residents using the local media, asking people to be vigilant and keep their property secure. A number of arrests have been made.
We continue to promote Neighbourhood Watch schemes within the community.
Overall, anti-social behaviour has decreased compared to the same period last year. Youth anti-social behaviour is lower than last year. In order to tackle this behaviour a number of youths have been stopped, spoken to in front of their parents and signed up to improve their behaviour. Patrols are focussing on key areas and we are working closely with partners to develop diversionary activities.
Violent crime is significantly down from the same period last year, criminal damage remains at a similar level to last year. Figures for theft from motor vehicles are similar to the same period in 2011. We ask that you remove valuables from your vehicle overnight and check that it is kept locked.
The Killingworth Neighbourhood Policing Team will continue to work closely with our partners, listening to the concerns of residents, dealing with their issues so that we can improve the quality of life for the community we serve.
