Crime Statistics Commentary

In North Shields total crime for March has shown an increase compared to the levels shown in February.

Burglary offences have risen slightly in March, particularly in respect of garages and sheds being broken into and bicycles and gardening equipment stolen. Some basic crime prevention measures could assist greatly with householders encouraged to lock their property using good quality appliances and also property mark or register their belongings with Immobilise so when items are recovered they can be traced and returned to the rightful owner.

Incidents of vehicle crime have risen in March. Extra patrols have been carried out in those affected areas resulting in arrests being made and a reduction in the number of offences occurring. These patrols are still ongoing.

Incidents of theft (shoplifting) have seen noticeable reductions in March.
To continue to achieve these reductions extra patrols have been carried out in areas where these types of offence have been happening.

Reductions continue to be achieved in other categories of crime such as theft and violent crime.

The Neighbourhood Policing team continue to work with partners in order to ensure long term results. By consulting with the local community and analysing crime patterns we can ensure we put police officers and staff in the right areas at the right times to ensure that we continue bring crime down.

Incidents of Anti Social Behaviour have increased in March and to reduce this we continue to work with local diversionary groups to provide local activities for young people during the evenings. We have maintained a high profile policing presence in and around licensed premises and other highlighted locations to ensure that people enjoy themselves in North Shields by taking pre emptive measures against those wishing to cause trouble.
