Neighbourhood priorities

Northumbria Police aims to meet our commitment to you.

The following Neighbourhood priorities relate to your area:

1. May 2012: Evening and overnight burglaries to sheds and garages in the Battle Hill and Howdon areas.

“What you told us”

 

There has been an increase in the number of reports of sheds and garages being broken into.

 

“What we are doing about it”     

   

Additional uniform police patrols have been allocated to the area to prevent offences and provide reassurance. Officers in plain clothes will carry out foot patrol and cycle patrols to find those resopnsible for these offences and take action.

 

“Keeping you informed”

 

A number of search warrants have been carried out in the area. Officers have also been involved in delivering crime prevention leaflets and giving advice. Crime prevention messages have also been published in the local press.


2. May 2012: To offer reassurance to our local community by providing a highly visible uniform presence at our Metro stations and on the Metro system in order to reduce anti-social behaviour and violence.

Reduce anti-social behaviour around the Metro system.

"What we are doing about it"

Patrols are being stepped up in the area to tackle the issue. Officers will travel on the Metro to ensure people feel safe while using the system.

In response to this:

Stop and search and 'direction to leave' powers are being robustly used to deal effectively with those believed to be involved in crime or anti-social behaviour on the Metro system. These people may also be subject to tenancy enforcement through partnership work with the local authority. 


3. May 2012: Tackle evening and overnight burglaries to homes and sheds in the High Farm to Battle Hill corridor, north of the Coast Road.

"What you told us"

There has been reports of burglaries to homes and sheds in the high Farm to Battle Hill corridor.

"What we are doing about it"

All Neighbourhood Beat Managers, 24/7 officers, Community Support Officers, detectives and partner agencies have been made aware of the issue.

Additional uniform police patrols have been allocated to the area to prevent offences and provide reassurance. Officers in plain clothes will carry out foot patrol and cycle patrols to find those responsible and detect offences.

"Keeping you informed"

Stop and search powers will be used robustly to deal effectively with those suspected of committing or being about to commit offences. Police are working closely with partner agencies and intelligence is being gathered in order to target offenders and to deploy resources including specialist resources.
