We have continued to target anti-social behaviour in the Newsham and Ridley Park areas. To tackle this the Neighbourhood Policing Team has increased the number of patrols at times when we have been told problems are happening.
A policing operation is currently underway to identify the main offenders and we have been conducting joint patrols with Homes for Northumberland. Youth workers are also in the area addressing reports of youth anti-social behaviour.
There have been 14 house burglaries during March and this is the number one priority for officers in Blyth. Already, following several arrests for burglary, there has been a massive reduction. Several other people have been arrested in relation to this type of offence and as a result we have had a continued drop during the early part of April.
In Blyth house burglary offences are rare. They had reduced by 55 % in 2010 and at the end of 2012 had further reduced by 6.3%.
Retail crime also remains a priority for officers in Blyth. This is often seen as a victimless crime when committed against large retailers but it does have a detrimental effect on smaller shops. We are working with retail premises to make Blyth an enjoyable place to shop as the town centre development continues.
Crime reduced by 5.5 % during the last financial year following on from the 6.8% reduction in the previous year.
We will continue to work with the community and our partners to raise trust and confidence while reducing crime and disorder.
