Neighbourhood priorities

Northumbria Police aims to meet our commitment to you.

The following Neighbourhood priorities relate to your area:

1. May 2012: Disorder in The Oval, Newsham

"What you told us"

From reported incidents and local community meetings concerns have been expressed about disorder in and around The Oval in Newsham . Concerns have been expressed about youths running through gardens, loud music and groups of youths gathering.

"What we are doing about it"

We are increasing patrols in the area and Homes For Northumberland have installed several CCTV cameras.  We will also conduct joint patrols with our partners to address the problem.


Homes for Northumberland are preparing papers for notices seeking possession of two properties in the area.

Working with Homes For Northumberland we are preparing an ASBO application against one youth.

A funding application has been successful for a youth club at a local community centre.

"Keeping you informed" 

Two males have recently been arrested for an assault in the area. They are on bail with conditions not to enter Newsham.


Three youths have received warnings for persistently possessing alcohol in a public place.


A quad bike has recently been seized after numerous reports of it being used in a disorderly manner.

2. May 2012: Disorder in and around Ridley Park, Blyth.

"What you told us"       

Local residents have informed us at residents meetings that there is an increase in youths gathering in Ridley Park, drinking and acting in an anti social manner when leaving the park.

"What we are doing about it"

Patrols are being directed to the locality at the times you say there are problems. Applications have been made for funding to assist with extra patrols in the area.

CCTV in the area will be monitored.

Local licensed premises will be visited to ensure no-one underage is being sold alcohol.

Direction to leave the locality notices will be issued to youths identified as acting in an anti social manner.

"Keeping you informed"  

As a result of an ongoing operation in the area, 30 Anti Social Behaviour letters were sent to parents of children stopped, 20 children had alcohol seized from them and received their first warning for persistently possessing alcohol and 8 direction to leave notices were issued. There were 6 arrests for a number of offences and several referrals were also made to Social Services.
