Neighbourhood priorities

Northumbria Police aims to meet our commitment to you.

The following Neighbourhood priorities relate to your area:

1. May 2012: Speeding in towns and villages across Morpeth.

"What you told us"

As a result of correspondence from residents, engagement days held across the sector in Morpeth supermarkets, Cambo and Hepscott villages and through Parish Councils, we have received complaints about speeding motor vehicles travelling through towns and villages across Morpeth.

"What we are doing about it"

Operation Go Slow ran for four weeks throughout March and has been extended for a further month to monitor the speed of traffic across the Morpeth sector in different locations at different times to:

- Target the motorists in the locations highlighted by the community.
- Provide a high profile presence for local residents and a deterrent to motorists.
- Advise or warn drivers where appropriate.

2. May 2012: Anti-social behaviour in Pegswood.

"What you told us"

Residents who attended the Police Authority and Community (PACT) meeting in April complained about disorder by youths playing football and children playing on their scooters in certain streets of Pegswood.

"What we are doing about it"

Neighbourhood officers are providing a high profile visible presence in the areas identified during the evenings and at weekends, to reassure residents and provide advice.

                                                                                                                                                                                          Officers will:

- Proactively deal with groups of youths to prevent incidents of disorder and confront anyone acting in an anti-social manner.
- Arrest anyone who is drunk and disorderly in a public place.
- Deal robustly with incidents of public disorder.
- Confiscate alcohol from those drinking illegally in the street.

The local neighbourhood officer will:

- Visit regular callers to establish their real concerns with a view to managing their expectations and provide advice.
- Work with local partners to promote activities for the children.
- Work with Trading Standards to reduce underage drinking in the area.

"Keeping you informed"

Residents will be informed of successes through the sector website, local media, officers attending community meetings and patrolling officers. A leaflet drop will be made in certain locations in the Pegswood area.
