Fish sellers advice
Dated: 06 May 2012
Police are advising householders to be on their guard after reports of men selling fish for inflated prices in an area of Northumberland.
At around noon on Saturday, May 5, it was reported two men sold some fish to an elderly couple in the Alnwick area. They were talked into paying an inflated price of £590, a £500 cheque and £90 in cash, for the fish by a man whose manner was aggressive.
The man, wearing a white coat, was in a large white van with another man and drove off. The couple in their 90s felt intimidated by the seller but were otherwise unhurt.
Chief Inspector Jackie Coleman of Northumberland Area Command said: "We are concerned that residents, and elderly people in particular, are being conned into parting with large sums of money. "
